With the disappointing season that unfolded in Phoenix, changes will be necessary. We have already seen the first domino from this franchise, with head coach Mike Budenholzer being relieved of coaching the team after one season. This is a common trend with the Suns, who are aboard the coaching carousel again as they will have their fourth head coach in four years. This time it is different as the coach will not be the only scapegoat this season. The Suns offseason is said to see multiple changes to the coaching staff, front office, and roster. Here are three Suns I expect to be on the move next year.
3 Suns Expected to be on the Move this Offseason
Who Can be Moved for the Suns this Offseason?
Well, with the Suns being in the second apron and having most of their money tied up in three players, there are limited options.

As you can see, they only have seven guaranteed deals on the roster at this moment. For a team that did not meet the standards of the fans and front office, big shifts are expected.
Kevin Durant
The name that has been associated the most with the Suns in recent trade discussions is Kevin Durant. After failing to find a deal for Bradley Beal at the trade deadline, the Suns almost traded Durant to save themselves on the fly. This led to a not-so-great relationship with the team in the year’s second half. Now, the team admits that approaching a trade in that manner was not the right way to do it, but both sides realize that a trade may be on the horizon. With the Suns still finding difficulty moving off Beal’s contract, Durant may be the only out they have to retool this team.
From recent reports, Shams Charania has been alluding to a move, it seems more apparent that this partnership will end. With Durant in his final year of his contract, the Suns want to make sure they can get some value for him if this process goes even further south. Not to say I agree, as Durant has stated multiple times that he loves Phoenix and wants to retire here. Unfortunately for Durant and the Suns, this pairing may have to be cut short faster than either would have liked.
“If you lose early … could [the Rockets] look at a guy like Kevin Durant? … Monitor them.”
@ShamsCharania says KD and the Rockets have a “level of mutual interest” in working together

Bradley Beal
Unfortunately for Beal and the Suns, this plan of acquiring him did not go as intended. This has been a problem of past Suns offseason moves as well. That being said, I do believe a move to get off his contract will be the team’s first plan of action. Suns insider John Gambadaro has doubled down on what he is being told about the Beal situation.

This leads me to think that Beal will not be on this roster following this season. Now, how will the Suns get this done? That still remains the question. With Beal having a no-trade clause in his contract, he has the ultimate decision on his new home. This has led to the discussion of the team potentially buying out his contract. Now, this has been a talking point on how much it would help. Regardless of how you feel, both parties will discover different avenues for the Suns this offseason.
Grayson Allen
There is one name who is on this team and has a tradable contract. Grayson Allen earned his extension last year but saw his role reduced this season. On a team with plenty of players like him, it also makes sense why he would be available. Not to mention the $16 million he makes next season would be considered a solid contract around the association. Allen also presents a role every team would want: three-point shooting, a trait needed in today’s game. As the team looks to add roles they lack, he could present himself as a solid three-point shooter to many rotations across the league. This leads me to believe he will also be moved in this busy Suns offseason.
The Last Word
The Phoenix Suns will see changes at all levels within the organization. Time will only tell who Mat Ishbia will spare and leave here to run in the Valley next season. What the Suns get in return also remains a mystery. With all that being said, Ishbia has stated he wants a contender and said to retool this offseason.
