Devin Booker voted NBA Cares Community Assist Season Long Award winner

The NBA and Kaiser Permanente to are donating $25,000 to Phoenix Suns Charities on Booker’s behalf.

Devin Booker, All-Star guard for the Western Conference Champion Phoenix Suns, has been named the 2020-21 NBA Cares Community Assist Award. The NBA names a winner each month for the award; Booker received the season long award on Wednesday. The voting occurred over a 12-day period in which the public provided their feedback as well as by an NBA executive panel.

Booker has been a force in the Phoenix community since arriving in the Valley of the Suns in 2015. He has been committed to the franchise that drafted him and the community that embraced him throughout his tenure in Phoenix.

The honor was announced exactly 3 years after Booker signed his five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension, which occurred on July 7, 2018. Booker has continually taken his money and used it to enhance his community.

Shortly after signing his max deal, Devin introduced the “Devin Booker Starting Five”, an initiative in which five local nonprofit organizations will be granted $100,000 each to continue improving the lives of youth and families in need throughout Arizona.

Booker committed to do so for the next five years. This year Booker donated $100,000 to Arizona Autism United, Central Arizona Shelter Services, YMCA of Southern Arizona, GAP Ministries, and Elevate Phoenix.

Whether it is via visits at the Phoenix Children Hospital or hosting holiday shopping sprees for the less fortunate, Devin continually exemplifies the characteristics that NBA Cares seeks to recognize. He has been more than a basketball player and public figure in the Phoenix community. He has made a difference in countless lives and impacted the state of Arizona in an unquantifiable manner.

This award comes as Devin Booker is looking to bring the city of Phoenix an NBA championship for the first time in their half-century+ history. He has been the constant throughout the past 6 years of Suns basketball, reaching personal highs while his team hit all-time lows. Through it all he has displayed class and poise, never venting his frustrations in an unprofessional manner or quitting on his team.

He has absorbed the down times in Phoenix and used it as fuel to reach heights this franchise has never seen.

Booker will be honored with the 2020-21 NBA Cares Community Assist Award in a ceremony prior to the start of Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
