Former Duke Blue Devils star Grayson Allen was known as a lanky guard during his college days. However, the Phoenix Suns shooting guard bulked up over the past few months and is ready to play with the bigs – well, kind of.
During the 2023-24 season, the Suns roster listed the 6-foot-4 hooper at 195 pounds. This year’s roster lists him at 198 pounds, but that three-pound increase isn’t even close to accurate according to the man himself.
During the team’s media day earlier this week Allen revealed that he’s tipping the scales at over 225 pounds – well over his listed weight. According to Arizona Sports, Allen said he’s around 230 pounds heading into the 2024-25 season.
“Having that base of strength has helped me a lot with durability throughout the season,” Allen said on Monday.
“As a muscle watch corespondent, can confirm Grayson Allen’s offseason photos translate in person. His shoulders are huge. Allen has been slowly adding weight over the last four years and is now up to 230 pounds. He laughed at the dated 195 he was listed at last year,” reporter Kellan Olson noted.
The former Blue Devils guard believes the excess weight has helped him stay on the floor over the past two seasons after struggling with injuries earlier in his career.
“I’ve always felt good with a little bit more strength, a little bit more weight, a little bit more muscle,” Allen said.
Allen signed a four-year deal with the Suns earlier this year after leading the NBA in three-point shooting percentage with 46.1%.
