Let the 2024-25 season begin.
It’s the last day of September. Yep. We’re about to enter the best month of the year. You may or may not have heard my anti-August rants in the past. How there is no redeeming quality that that month possesses. October? Oh, it’s quite the opposite. Holidays, football, MLB playoffs, and the return of baseball. Just one more day. If only we had something to get us through today…
Oh, snap! IT’S SUNS MEDIA DAY!!! As Captain Jimmy Wilder said in Independence Day, it’s time to “Kick the tires and light the fires!”.
I’ve mentioned it before, but Phoenix Suns Media Day feels like the first day of school. After a summer apart, we reconvene as the team, from the owner to the last guy on the roster, takes their turn to answer questions from the media, both local and national.
It starts with the guys not in jerseys.
Mat Ishbia (and maybe Josh Bartelstein) will most likely make an appearance — they did last year — followed by James Jones and Mike Budneholzer. We’ll certainly have numerous questions about roster construction and schemes.
Then, it’s right down the line, as each player comes out and takes our questions.
It’s a well-oiled machine to witness, as players go through the process of taking headshots, promo photos, and promo videos. You know that moment in the fourth quarter when Kevin Durant was trying to pump up the crowd on the big screen? Yeah. That’s recorded today!
Bright Side of the Sun will have a presence in the building, as Brandon Duenas, Matthew Lissy, and I will be on-site, in person, and doing our best to get a chance to squeeze in some questions.
Stay tuned for thoughts on the responses, quotes from the players and coaches, and my “dear diary” piece that will go up sometime today or tomorrow!
