Netflix released the first trailer for Court of Gold, a documentary about the USA men’s basketball team in their road to the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Americans won the gold against France in the Olympic finals. The documentary shows a lot of behind the scenes footage and interviews with some of the main stars on both teams. In the first trailer, Kevin Durant has a savage response to Evan Fournier.
KD to Fournier “Chemistry Won’t Help You Guard Steph”
Durant and Fournier were two of the main stars on both teams. The documentary paints them against each other in the trailer, with Fourner talking about the chemistry of the French team. Fournier said,
“We’ve played together for 10-plus years. These guys show up for three weeks.”
Right after that, Durant responds,
“Oh. OK. Alright. That chemistry going to help you when you got to guard Steph?”
The trailer cuts the two responses perfectly. And it might make up for an even more dynamic series whenever the US and France meet again in a basketball game.
For what is worth, Steph Curry dominated the French team in the finals. He led the Americans to the gold with 24 points on eight three-pointers in the finals. Two of them came in the final minutes. Durant had 15 points and LeBron James had 14 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds.
The French are Coming
The US won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. But the French national team is coming, and it might make for an even more interesting game at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. France and the US have been battling each other for the last several years. They have played against each other eight times, with the US team winning seven of them. France had one victory, in the group stages at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In the finals, the US stormed to an 87-82 victory in Tokyo.
With Victor Wembanyama developing into one of the best players in the league, France has a bright future. Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, and Zaccharie Risacher are other young players that will be ready to contribute in 2028. Nolan Traore is considered a potential top-five pick in the upcoming 2025 draft. All in all, France might have one of the best basketball teams at the next Olympics.
When Will the Netflix Documentary Come Out?
In August, just as the Olympics came to close, Netflix teased the docuseries showing jerseys of five of the biggest stars from the tournament, Team USA, France, Serbia, Canada, and Germany. They have since reduced it to four teams, without Germany.
The documentary, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the four squads, will be available to watch on Netflix on February 18. Higher Ground Productions, a company led by former President Barack Obama and his wife produced the documentary.
Besides Kevin Durant and Evan Fournier, the trailer for the documentary also features Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Bogdan Bogdanovic. Fans will get a chance to see some behind-the-scenes footage. But Kevin Durant delivered the best punchline. At the beginning of the trailer, he also said,
“There’s going to be a lot of talk if we lose this game.”
Luckily, the Americans won the game. But the one in 2028 will be a different story. KD, Steph, and LeBron will not be there. Will the young Americans be ready to defend the American pride?
