Kevin Durant is expected to remain with the Phoenix Suns past the trade deadline, reports Shams Charania. The Suns listened to trade offers on Durant this week, particularly with the Golden State Warriors. Durant, however, communicated that he wasn’t interested in returning to the Warriors. Beyond the Warriors and Miami Heat, it has not been reported which other teams have registered interest with the Suns on Durant. The Houston Rockets have previously been linked with Durant, but they have wanted to keep their existing core in place during the season and have also signaled they would prefer to acquire a star that is similar in age to their team.
“And now if you’re the Phoenix Suns, obviously, even if you engaged in some level of conversation, they have always wanted to position this team around Kevin Durant and Devin Booker,” said Shams Charania on Wednesday evening. “All signs indicate that Kevin Durant will reman a Phoenix Sun.”
In November, Mat Ishbia went on record with the Suns’ expectation that they would sign Durant to a two-year, $124 million contract extension during the 2025 offseason.
Durant is having another All-NBA caliber season and is averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 36.2 minutes in 39 games for the Suns.
