Kevin Durant knows a thing or two about scoring, but even he was taken aback by Joel Embiid’s record-setting 70-point performance Monday night.
Following the Phoenix Suns’ 115-113 win over the Chicago Bulls, in which Durant scored 43 points, the sharpshooting forward was asked for his thoughts on Embiid dropping 70.
“Seventy?” Durant asked incredulously. “He had 70?”
As you can see in the clip below, Durant was so impressed, he didn’t even let the reporter finish his question and mention Karl-Anthony Towns pouring in 62 points for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Durant is averaging 29.6 points per game this season and is coming off back-to-back 40-point outings. He has also scored 50 or more points in a game nine times in his career, including a personal-best 55 points for the Brooklyn Nets against the Atlanta Hawks in April 2022.
That KD was so stirred by what Embiid did is a testament to the big man’s ability, as well as a reminder of just how many elite scorers there are in the NBA these days.
