In his first interview since Thursday’s trade deadline, Kevin Durant opens up about his true feelings after all the chaos.
We hadn’t heard from Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant since the trade deadline passed, but after Monday’s shootaround, the media finally got their chance to ask him about it. Durant didn’t hold back, offering blunt and detailed thoughts on the deadline and the business side of the game.
While trade rumors and speculation swirled around him, Durant remained unfazed, emphasizing his commitment to the game and his teammates. He acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the NBA but made it clear that his focus is on helping the Suns push forward, no matter the roster changes or outside noise.
“It’s just part of the business, man,” the 15-time All-Star said. “Everybody’s bought and sold in this league, everybody can be up for auction. So I understand that. It’s just about getting back on the court and trying to play the game that I love.”

Whether we supported the idea of trading Durant to the Golden State Warriors or preferred keeping the current group intact, one thing is certain, we’re all eager to see this team build chemistry and push as far as they can with what they have.
As for the future, that’s something we as fans can’t control. And shouldn’t worry about until the season is over. As for Durant, he seems locked in on Phoenix, at least until his contract runs its course in the Valley.
“I always had a goal of playing my contract out and seeing what happens,” Durant said. “I know that’ll be a topic, that’s probably the most frustrating thing about being in trade talks is that the microscope is gonna be on solely just me the rest of the season. My body language, how I speak to you guys after the games, how I’m looking on the bench. That stuffed is gonna abe magnifed.”

Durant finds himself at the center of drama almost every year, and whether it’s his fault or not, he understands that the distractions can sometimes be unfair.
He even called out one of the NBA’s biggest flaws: narratives being created without truly knowing the players, the environment, or the full story. This includes the “toxic” label placed on Phoenix after the trade deadline.
“Yeah, I heard Ramona Shelburne come out and say our locker room is toxic,” referencing the ESPN report last week stating as much. “I try to tell people who aren’t around this game much is that it’s easy to say our locker room is not connected when you come in there 45 minutes before and guys are in their game mode and not talking to each other. Four or five guys might be in the training room, a few guys might be in the weight room. it’s not a welcoming environment right before the game. That’s part of getting ready to play.”
“I think it’s unfair and lazy to categorize our team as toxic when you come in there for five minutes throughout four months,” KD added. “That’s the only time you’ve been in our locker room and then you can make a narrative? I don’t think that’s fair to us, but like I said, that’s a part of the game. Part of the business we signed up for. Shit is not fair in this game, but we got to deal with it and accept it.”

The rest of the season will be a tough stretch for the Suns, with emotions running high from the players to the GM and even the owner. However, Durant did a good job of avoiding blame or fueling any potentially false narratives. His focus remains on basketball, and that’s exactly what Phoenix needs right now.
The future may not look the brightest, but as long as Durant and Booker are on this team, there’s still a glimmer of hope. If they can secure a playoff spot, who knows? They might just surprise us all once they get there.
With all the outside noise and uncertainty, the Suns have no choice but to rally together and prove that chemistry, not chaos, will define their season.
