Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns will not sign a contract extension before Monday’s deadline. Durant has two seasons remaining on his contract and is only eligible for a one-year extension. Next offseason, Durant will become eligible for a two-year extension.
“I’m told there will not be an extension there for Kevin Durant,” said Shams Charania on NBA Today.
Both the Suns and Durant have a preference for a two-year extension worth approximately $124 million.
In 2021, Durant and the Brooklyn Nets signed a four-year, $198 million extension. Durant requested a trade from the Nets that following offseason in 2022 before he was eventually dealt at the 2023 trade deadline to the Suns.
