Brian Windhorst broke some news about Kevin Durant’s availability for Team USA’s Olympic opener against Serbia this weekend and one of Durant’s business partners didn’t appreciate it.
On Tuesday, the ESPN NBA insider said that he expects Team USA will be without Durant for the game this weekend as he continues to mend from a calf strain he suffered in training last month. Durant did not play with Team USA during their recent exhibition win over Germany.
“I think (Team USA is) going to be playing Serbia without Kevin Durant.”
But Durant’s business partner Rich Kleiman begs to disagree. Or at least, he did for a brief time.
Taking to social media in series of since-deleted messages, Kleiman declared that Windhorst’s comments were simply “not true.” He admonished Windhorst for telling people what he thinks rather than what he knows.
He criticized Windhorst and told him to “start reporting only the facts.”
For what it’s worth, Team USA coach Steve Kerr has not indicated any plans to remove Durant from the lineup and Durant is incredibly optimistic about his health heading into Paris.
“I’ve seen progress every day,” Durant said this past Friday, via the Associated Press. “It’s one of those things. Just got to monitor it every day. I’ll see how I feel after I do certain exercises. My thing is to keep running and see what happens.”
We will, indeed, see what happens.
