In a move that was widely expected but still disappointing for many, the Phoenix Suns notified star point guard Chris Paul that they are releasing him. He will now be a free agent in the 2023 NBA offseason.
It’s hard to overstate just how much of a difference-maker CP3 has been for the Suns since joining them in 2020. After missing the playoffs in 10 straight seasons, the Suns went all the way to the NBA Finals in 2021 with him leading the way.
The Paul-led Suns reached the NBA playoffs in his latter two years with the team, advancing to the Conference Semifinals each time. But after the 2022-23 season, the Suns decided to part ways with head coach Monty Williams.
For most fans, the story is fodder mixed in with today’s earlier story that his kids have been bullied at school over his postseason failures. But other fans are starting to wonder if CP3 might be ready to join their team now:

Early reports indicate that the 38 year old point guard wants to reunite with his former coach, Monty Williams. The idea of mentoring Detroit’s young guards also appeals to Paul. https://t.co/yYYdICRnOg

There’s no denying that Chris Paul has more good years behind him than in front of him. The last two seasons have seen him record career-lows in per game scoring.
But if CP3 still plans on playing, he should have no issue finding a team that will continue to start him.
Where will Chris Paul play this coming season?
