Analyst Nick Wright floated the idea of Kevin Durant joining the Boston Celtics in a shocking offseason trade. The Phoenix Suns superstar has been linked with a move away from the Valley after the 2024-25 season comes to an end, and the Celtics have surged as a potential landing spot.
During Tuesday’s episode of FS1’s “First Thing First,” Wright reported that the 2024 NBA champions could make a swing for Durant, but he didn’t share many details about what it would take for the Suns or Celtics to unlock negotiations for the two-time NBA champion looking for a third title.
“Two totally unrelated people, both of whom have reputations for knowing things that other people don’t know, have said to me, ‘Watch out for Durant in Boston,’ Wright said.
“I don’t know even the pieces that would work, and it feels a lot like what Durant got killed for with [joining] Golden State before. So it doesn’t make sense, but I’ve heard that twice now.”

Durant faced the Celtics during his time with the Brooklyn Nets, getting swept by the 18-time NBA champions during the 2022 season when the Celtics went all the way to the Finals and lost to Durant’s former team, the Golden State Warriors.
He hasn’t found success in Phoenix, and multiple reports place him on different NBA teams. One of the latest suggests Durant is plotting a move to the Houston Rockets in the summer. Now, the Celtics are joining the growing list of Durant’s potential sweepstakes.
