Gambo reports that the deal is done despite some concerns over the “pending” status of the deal.
The Mark Williams trade getting rescinded combined with the “pending” status of the Phoenix Suns-Hornets trade had people up in arms this morning.
Earlier this morning, a Hornets reporter dropped a since-deleted tweet on X to induce panic for Suns fans. Cody Martin had an injury so the speculation ran wild about his medicals being the hold-up.
In short, it added speculation as to why the trade was pending. It has since cleared.
Owen added: “The more likely option, Cody Martin’s physical. After Mark failed his, it would not be shocking to see that Cody Martin failed his. Martin has been dealing with a sports hernia, which typically sees a 6-8 week recovery time. The Suns may have another year left on Martin’s deal, but this could impact them in the offseason, as an ugly trade deadline could cause a blow-up in Phoenix, and Martin is not exactly a core piece to hold on to.”

Either way, the Suns are sacrificing a pick to get off of Nurkic’s contract and help get them potentially get under the second apron easier this summer. If Cody Martin isn’t healthy and Micic wants to return to Europe as reported, the Suns may not get much production out of their return for Nurkic, though that may not have ever been the expectation from this type of trade.
The trade has been confirmed since then as mentioned above. Buckle up. Jusuf Nurkic will make his Hornets debut tonight!
