The Houston Rockets are looking to add veteran help this summer. They seem to be dreaming big, with eyes on Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns. In order to get there, Houston will have to offer Phoenix a big deal, but they are close to being able to do so.
The Rockets could offer starting center Alperen Sengun as the headline player in a deal for Durant. Houston also acquired several Suns future draft picks in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets. Those picks would presumably be routed back to Phoenix in any deal for Durant.
Sengun averaged 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season for the Rockets. He’s eligible for a rookie scale extension this offseason, and could command max or near-max money in such a deal.
Durant has two seasons and $105.9 million left on his contract. The Rockets would need to match $51.2 million in salary in a deal this offseason for the veteran superstar.
