Suns superstar Kevin Durant will wait until next offseason for extension talks.
The Phoenix Suns and Kevin Durant will not reach an extension this offseason before Monday’s deadline. All signs are pointing towards a future deal between the parties.
Shams Charania reported what has already been known, but added that Durant and the Suns have been focused on getting a deal done in the two-year range. Shams said: “Kevin Durant has expressed publicly and privately how much he loves Phoenix.”

“I’m not even thinking about it,” Durant said after Thursday’s shootaround at the team’s practice facility. “I’m just going to play out my contract really, and just focus on that. Focus on the team. I haven’t even really had conversations with anybody about a contract. Trying to focus on basketball.”
Kevin Durant has two options. Option one is agreeing to a one-year extension with the Phoenix Suns for $59.5 million for the 2026-27 season. Option two is to wait until next summer to sign a two-year extension for $123.8 million.

We will have to wait until next season for more. That is best for Phoenix considering Durant’s age (36) and future second apron implications. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season if he is not extended next offseason.
