If the Phoenix Suns are trying to silence all the trade rumors surrounding Kevin Durant, they have a weird way of showing it.
With the trade deadline roughly 24 hours away, there have been rumblings about the Suns possibly moving Durant in a blockbuster deal that could involve multiple teams. ESPN insider Brian Windhorst talked about Durant possibly heading back to the Golden State Warriors during an appearance on “Get Up” this Wednesday.
“Durant has one year on his contract, so they [the Suns] have now begun entertaining, ‘Should we trade Kevin Durant?’ And they have begun those discussions across the league,” Windhorst said. “Now, I’d like to shift you to the Bay: 25-24, veteran team, underachieving, difficult time trading for a star. They’ve been looking for a year for a star, looking for LeBron [James], for Paul George, for [Lauri] Markkanen, all these things. Very aggressive owner who can’t stand this. I am describing to you how this began. So now, we have the Warriors and Suns discussing the possibility of bringing Kevin Durant back, okay? I am not gonna sit here and even begin to project or guess as to how this may go down.”
Unfortunately for fans in Phoenix, all the speculation surrounding Durant’s future is about to go up a notch.
Moments ago, the Suns announced that Durant will sit out tonight’s game against the Oklahoma City due to ankle soreness.
Durant twisted his ankle on Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers, so it’s not a huge surprise to see him on the injury report.
On the flip side, we can understand why fans are questioning Durant’s injury. The timing of this announcement from the Suns makes it seem like the All-Star forward is about to be on the move.
Durant has been great for the Suns, averaging 26.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. If he gets traded to the Warriors before Thursday’s deadline, they’ll have to be considered a legitimate threat in the Western Conference.
