There were plenty to chose from. Is this the right one?
It’s getting closer. We can feel it. Although Phoenix Suns Media Day 2024 has yet to be officially announced, I’m assuming it’ll be Monday, September 30. From there, the whirlwind begins. Training camp. Practices. Preseason. Opening Night.
Ah, the anticipation is palpable.
Basketball season is on the horizon, and I can hardly contain my excitement. The court is calling, and with each passing day, we’re drawn closer to the thrilling action we crave. I need it pumped into my veins ASAP. It’s been 142 days since the Suns played! For context, the regular season for Phoenix last season — October 24 to April 14 — was 173 days long.
What do we do to pass the time? Look at lists, of course!
National outlets are unveiling their Top 100 players, power rankings, and must-watch games as we tread through this season of lists and rankings. Sport Illustrated released their “Top 10 NBA Games to Circle for 2024–25 Season”, and wouldn’t you know it? A Suns game made the list.
The game they referenced? The February 5th matchup on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Central to the drama is Kevin Durant, a name forever tied to Oklahoma City, where he was drafted back in 2007. For some, his 2016 exit is an old wound that’s never quite healed…a painful reminder of how modern sports handle loyalty, or the complete lack of it. (Note: I’m not here to stir up the “Should KD have left OKC” debate. Just know that their fans are, well, still salty).
Durant stay in OKC and pull it off he undoubtedly on Mt. Rushmore. Hate he didn’t realize his influence at the time

But wait, Durant’s return is only one chapter in this endlessly dramatic saga!
The game itself promises to be a face-off of elite talent, with both teams showcasing some of the league’s brightest stars. But, as we all know, talent alone doesn’t make a team. Chemistry, timing, resilience — yada, yada, yada. The real question: Who will these teams actually be when the game finally rolls around?
February 5th, the date circled on the calendar, conveniently arrives just days before the NBA trade deadline. As of now, the Suns remain a bit of a mystery. Sure, their potential is there, but who will they be when this game arrives? Will they have lived up to the hype or will this game ultimately not matter because we’ll be playing armchair GM?
