The Phoenix Suns’ skid snapped, but the spell remained broken.
The final week of the Phoenix Suns season faded out with a whimper. Yes, the team finally snapped their eight-game skid, but a 1-9 closing stretch and a 1-3 showing in Week 25 sealed their fate. Disappointment lingered, but more than anything, there was relief. A collective exhale from a fanbase that had seen enough. This chapter — chaotic, confounding, and exhausting — is finally over.
(Sincere post) This season was not fun and yet many of you stuck around and listened to our podcast, watched on Playback with us, subscribed (or stayed subscribed) to our patreon, and I am truly grateful for the community that we have. On to next season.

I’ve got an extra sense of appreciation this year for those who continued to read and listen. It has been a brutal season and it’s understandable if you tapped out at some point. Thank you either way. Plenty of content coming over what should be a busy 3 months to wrap this up.

Before we tuck this one in for good, there’s one last thread to tie off.
It’s the final installment of our weekly dive into Tracking 40 — that delicate dance between three-point attempt rate and three-point shooting percentage — before we zoom out for the full-season recap.
One last check of the numbers. One more step on the trail. Let’s get into it.
Week 25 Record: 1-3
vs. Golden State Warriors, L, 133-123
- Suns 3PAr: 48.9%
- Suns 3PT%: 40.0%
Steph Curry put on a pregame show that felt more like Coachella than shootaround. Half-court swishes, Tupac-level charisma, and a packed crowd hanging on every flick of the wrist.
Then the actual game started, and the vibes nosedived faster than a turkey off the Griswold roof. The Suns delivered a lifeless effort soaked in “meh,” sleepwalking through a game that desperately needed urgency. Steph sizzled. The Suns fizzled. And I left craving distortion pedals and a cold beer.
vs. Oklahoma City Thunder, L, 125-112
- Suns 3PAr: 48.3%
- Suns 3PT%: 35.7%
This wasn’t a loss. This was a eulogy.
The Phoenix Suns flatlined in Oklahoma City, and with it, any last delusion that this season meant something. The scoreboard said “game,” but the vibes screamed “funeral.” Phoenix opened with 39 points, then disappeared like smoke in a monsoon, another seductive tease from a team that never truly showed up.
vs. San Antonio Spurs, W, 117-98
- Suns 3PAr: 49.5%
- Suns 3PT%: 40.4%
The Suns finally snapped their soul-sucking April skid, and while it won’t save their season, it sure soothed the burn. Ryan Dunn channeled his inner superhero, dropping a career-high 26 and reminding us why we cling to this cursed franchise.
Phoenix played like they remembered how basketball works. Sharing the ball, knocking down shots, playing actual defense. It wasn’t redemption, but damn if it didn’t feel like a warm blanket on a cold, wasted season.
@ Sacramento Kings, L, 109-98
- Suns 3PAr: 52.4%
- Suns 3PT%: 34.1%
No podcast. No rant. No rage-quitting mid-segment. Just a barstool, a cold beer, and the end of a Suns season that started like a promposal and ended like a break-up text.
As Phoenix dropped another meaningless double-digit loss, I found myself at The Backyard in North Phoenix, surrounded by fellow content creators, giving this season the Viking funeral it deserved—minus the fire, plus IPAs.
No heartbreak, just a collective sigh. The season’s dead, folks. Long live the rebuild. Pass the nachos.
Week 25: 49.7% 3PAr, 34.7 3PT%
The final snapshot of the 2024-25 Tracking 40 graph? Sure thing!

Postseason Preview
There is no postseason. The journey ends here. The final buzzer has sounded, and the line has been crossed.
Thank you for following along with these weekly reflections through the lens of 40/40. I hope they brought insight, perspective, and maybe even a little catharsis as we navigated the highs and lows together.
Later this week, I’ll be releasing a full season recap, one that traces every chapter we’ve tracked through this stat. A mosaic of moments, wins, losses, and lessons. One last look at what this season truly was.
