The Arizona Cardinals were among the NFL leaders in most salary lost to fines and salaries this past season.
Tracked by the Action Network, Arizona had the fourth-highest total of lost salaries. Their players lost $702,727.
The Houston Texans led the NFL, losing more than $3.1 million in salary, the only team to lose more than $1 million.
The Los Angeles Chargers were next, losing more than $903,00 and then the Pittsburgh Steelers were third, losing almost $732,000.
Why were the Cardinals ranked so highly?
It is because the lost salary not only includes fines but also lost salary to suspensions. Receiver Zay Jones started the season on a five-game suspension under the league’s personal conduct policy and he forfeited almost $492,000 of his salary.
Taking away the suspension, the Cardinals received just over $211,000 in fines over the course of the season for penalties. That would have put them in 20th place in fines.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were the least-fined team in the league, losing less than $108,000 in fines.
