Despite Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon adamantly stating that he won’t reveal the identity of his Week 1 starting quarterback is, it didn’t take long for insiders to figure it out.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are expected to have Josh Dobbs as their starter for Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. Rookie Clayton Tune will be the backup for the game.
Per the report, the Cardinals will evaluate the situation each week until starting quarterback and captain Kyler Murray is healthy again.
“Sources: The #AZCardinals are expected have Josh Dobbs as their starting QB this week, with rookie Clayton Tune getting backup reps. They’ll evaluate the situation each week, but this is how it begins,” Rapoport wrote.
Josh Dobbs got his first two starts last year for the Tennessee Titans, going 0-2 but looking relatively solid in his few appearances.
In the ensuing offseason he signed with the Cleveland Browns but wound up being traded to the Cardinals near the end of training camp.
Will Dobbs play well in Week 1?
