A late-season ACL injury sidelined Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray for a good portion of the 2022 season and all of the 2023 offseason. So with less than two weeks before the start of the regular season, the team has made a key roster decision on him.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals will keep Murray on the reserve/physically unable to perform list to start the season. As a result, Murray will be out for the first four games of the season.
It’s not clear at the moment who will be the Cardinals’ starter to begin the season against the Washington Commanders in Week 1. They recently released veteran quarterback Colt McCoy, so their remaining options have limited on-field experience.
The #AZCardinals will keep QB Kyler Murray on the reserve/PUP list to begin the season, as Murray continues to recover from the ACL injury suffered late last season, sources say. He’ll be out at least the first four games, which is not a surprise.

As it stands, the Cardinals’ active QBs room consists of David Blough, Josh Dobbs, Jeff Driskel and Clayton Tune. None of those names exactly inspire fear in defensive coordinators.
The Cardinals’ first few games will be against the Commanders, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. That’s three playoff teams and a road game to start the season.
Suffice it to say, the Cardinals could easily find themselves in a deep hole in short order until Murray is fit to return to the field.
