The ACL tear that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray suffered during the 2022 season doesn’t seem to have fully healed. At least, not to the extent that he’s ready to participate in training camp.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Murray is slated to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Should he stay on the list through the end of training camp and the start of the regular season, he will be deactivated for at least the first month of the season.
Rapoport noted that Murray’s designation is “no surprise” given that the injury was sustained in mid-December and it’s only been seven months for an injury that usually takes 9-12 to heal.
“#AZCardinals QB Kyler Murray will begin training camp on the PUP list, source said. Recovering from a torn ACL in mid-December, the designation is no surprise,” Rapoport wrote.

Kyler Murray went 3-8 as a starter last year while the rest of the Cardinals’ starting quarterbacks went a combined 1-5. They finished the season with the third-worst record in the NFL at 4-13.
After that dreadful season the Cardinals fired head coach Kliff Kingsbury and replaced him with former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.
But Gannon is going to need more than fresh energy and passion for the job to enjoy a successful first season. He needs a healthy Kyler Murray.
Will Murray be out on the field in Week 1?
