Colt Mccoy is dinged up entering his 14th year, but he has a chance to receive considerable playing time in 2023.
With Kyler Murray recovering from a torn ACL, McCoy could start the season as the Arizona Cardinals’ starting quarterback. That’s motivating the 36-year-old to keep playing despite experiencing his own health issues.
“Opportunities to play in this league don’t grow on trees,” McCoy said Monday, per Bo Brack of PHNX Sports. “I understand the situation that we’re in. I still want to play. I still feel confident that I can play.”

McCoy sustained a concussion after replacing Murray last December and is recovering from “some elbow stuff” this season. He acknowledged that he’s at the point of his career where he always evaluates whether he wants to keep playing.
Yet McCoy has started just 36 games in his NFL career, 21 of which came in 2010 and 2011. After spending a decade as a backup, the former Texas Longhorns star could start for a prolonged stretch this fall.
Of course, that’s only if McCoy is healthy enough to play. He conducted the press conference with a cast on his right arm but said he and Arizona’s training staff have developed a “great plan” to prepare him for the season.
