In a bizarre twist, the Cleveland Browns have traded quarterback Josh Dobbs to the Arizona Cardinals mere hours after naming him the backup for the 2023 season.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Browns are sending Dobbs to the Cardinals along with a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the same draft.
The move comes as the Cardinals have yet to announce their Week 1 starter for the 2023 season due to star quarterback Kyler Murray’s recovery from last year’s knee injury.
The addition of Dobbs gives the Cardinals about a half-dozen quarterbacks in the mix to start in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.

Arizona hasn’t named a starting QB, and now Dobbs is in the mix.

As for the Cleveland Browns, the decision to jettison Josh Dobbs will bump up highly-touted rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson to the backup quarterback for the 2023 season.
In a corresponding move, the Browns opted not to waive third-year quarterback Kellen Mond.
Will Dobbs start any games for the Cardinals this year?
