The Arizona Cardinals released veteran journeyman quarterback Colt McCoy on Monday, ending his time with the team after two seasons.
With McCoy gone, Arizona will be starting either Joshua Dobbs, who was acquired in a trade last week, or fifth-round rookie Clayton Tune at quarterback to begin the season.
Media members all said this decision signals one clear thing.
“Next-level tanking,” said Covers’ Joe Osborne.

“This is how you tank. Be awful at quarterback. Arizona isn’t even pretending they care about winning. They want Caleb Williams,” said former NFL offensive lineman and current Sirius XM host Geoff Schwartz.

“Little doubt the Cardinals are doing the right thing and punting off this season. They could end up with an unbelievable opportunity to have the first and second pick in the draft (so long as the Texans cooperate),” added VSIN’s Matt Brown.

Kyler Murray will miss at least the first four games of the regular season as he recovers from his ACL tear.
Even if he returns this year, don’t expect much out of the Cardinals in terms of winning. They seem to be fine with that though.
