Arizona Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill is making headlines this week for the wrong reasons.
Terry McDonough, the former vice president of personnel for the Cardinals, filed an arbitration complaint against the team earlier this year for gross misconduct among other allegations.
In McDonough’s complaint, he stated that he was aware of an incident where Bidwill allegedly berated a Black employee in a “radically charged manner.” There were also allegedly two instances where Bidwill “reduced to tears two pregnant employees as a result of his abusive and bullying mistreatment.”
Former Cardinals executive Ron Minegar actually drafted this letter directed toward Bidwill:
“Your negativity sucks the life out of the entire process and erodes our collective resolve to work our asses off for you and this franchise,” Minegar wrote. “It’s not just me — everyone in this building is impacted by your constant negativity.”
Clearly, people inside the building were unhappy with the workplace culture established by Bidwill.

In a statement to ESPN, Bidwill said the Cardinals have been working hard to improve their culture.
“We have more to do and, as I have said to every member of the Cardinals organization, that includes my own work to grow and improve as a leader,” Bidwill said. “The truth is that we are a different organization today than we were just a few years ago and extremely different from the club I grew up around in terms of business practices, sense of community and overall structure. I’m confident that we have the right team in place and the commitment to continue on our path to building the best organization possible.”
Bidwill has been the team’s president since 2007.
