If he is available for the Cardinals at pick #16, would you rush the pick to the podium?
Defensive end Shemar Stewart of Texas A%M, is an athletic phenomenon —- how many 6’5” 267-pound men on the planet can run a 4.60 40 and post a 40” vertical?
Shemar Stewart may be the biggest winner from Day 1 of the NFL Combine:

Weight: 26740 Time: 4.60

Shemar is off the RAS charts!
Shemar Stewart is a DE prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored an unofficial 9.99 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 3 out of 1802 DE from 1987 to 2025.

Possibly the best NFL physical comparison for Shemar is his fellow Aggie legend Myles Garrett.

Shemar Stewart is the closest player we’ve seen to Myles Garrett. Think about this, he played at 280+ pounds last year, is 6’5 & moves EXTREMELY well. He has legit bend and explosive ability. I would be shocked if Stewart does not go in the top 5-7. pic.twitter.com/dJlJanhxPq

Why oh why in the world then —- in three seasons at A&M did Shemar Stewart record only 65 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble?
This season at Boston College, edge Donovan Ezeiruaku at 6-2, 247, amassed 80 combined tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 16.6 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.

Just studied college tapes of Myles Garrett and Shermar Stewart side by side — Garrett knew how to use his size and length to leverage edge blockers, pin them and bolt off them on a hinge. Shermar is angular but he has a habit of standing straight up off the snap instead of initiating contact to establish leverage early — and yet he does a great job of then reacting to the flow of the play and will do all he can to chase it down, but in terms of finishing sacks, his initial pop-ups cause him too often to be a second or two late.
The first thing I would do is play Shermar Stewart on the edge strictly in a 2-point stance. That way he is not popping straight up on the snap. The next thing is perfecting his launch steps and helping him use his superior length and size to pin leverage. The techniques take time, though. After that, then you help him craft his counter moves. Gotta love the motor and his superior physical traits.
ROTB Question:
Do you think the Cardinals should draft at the edge for a highly productive rusher or should they take an athletic anomaly like Shemar Stewart instead?
Monti Ossenfort said that he wants to draft pass rushers who are highly versatile. Shemar Stewart fits that description, as he can rush the edge and, at times, kick down and rush from the inside.
This young man’s athletic upside is absolutely through the roof. And hey Danielle Hunter only had 4.5 sacks in 3 years at LSU. Hunter is a player that JG knows well from his Minnesota days. Albeit that Hunter was drafted by the Vikings in Round 3 in 2015, at pick #88.
