What a great week of football. This column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less each week. For reference, the threshold used for Wins and Losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score at least 17 points, if the tight ends can score at least eight PPR points, and if the rest can score at least 10 PPR points. Week 8 Streamers
Quarterback – Sam Howell (WAS – 45%) @ NE
Sam Howell is coming into this one hot after a career performance in Week 8. He put up 397 passing yards and four touchdowns against one interception while also chipping in 11 rushing yards. The passing yards and touchdowns were both career-highs. Some of that was due to the fact that the Washington Commanders were trailing and needed to throw more often but they also can’t run the ball effectively whatsoever. That leads to more dropbacks for Howell which is great for fantasy. He’s also not scared to be aggressive either which is a great combination.
This week, Howell gets an easier matchup against a struggling New England Patriots team. It’s possible that the Commanders are able to run more often and more effectively in this one, but they’ll still need plenty of Howell to win this game. Howell is currently the QB9 on the season and averaging 18.61 fantasy points per game which makes him easily one of the best Week 9 streamers among all quarterbacks.
Honorable Mentions – Daniel Jones (NYG – 37%) @ LV, Derek Carr (NO – 37%) v CHI
Running Back – Darrell Henderson (LAR – 45%) @ GB
It’s a bit surprising that Darrell Henderson is still available in more than half of leagues so we’ll double-down here and go back to the well until people start taking him more seriously as a fantasy option. This past week he had 12 carries for 31 yards and three receptions for 54 yards on his way to 11.50 fantasy points and an RB17 finish (pending Monday Night Football). The rushing efficiency wasn’t good but the receiving role is very nice and so is 15 touches. It’s rare to have a running back available in more than half of leagues that are seeing 15 touches weekly.
On top of that, this was a tough matchup. This week the Los Angeles Rams get to take on the Green Bay Packers who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to running backs this season. Royce Freeman is splitting the role as well, but Henderson has produced for two straight weeks now and has a sizeable role in a great matchup, making him one of the best Week 9 streamers at running back.
#Rams Week 8 RB Usage
– Royce Freeman: 52% snaps, 9 carries, no targets (44 yds, TD)
– Darrell Henderson Jr: 48% snaps, 12 carries, 12 routes, 3 targets (85 yards)— Michael F. Florio (@MichaelFFlorio) October 29, 2023
Honorable Mentions – Royce Freeman (LAR – 22%) @ GB, Emari Demercado (ARI – 36%) @ CLE
Wide Receiver – Tank Dell (HOU – 50%) v TB
Tank Dell is the only player on this list that didn’t have a great game in Week 8 but fantasy managers shouldn’t give up on him because of it. It was simply a weird game for the Houston Texans and even still, they were trying to get the ball in his hands. Dell saw four targets and three carries and has now seen at least two carries in three straight games. He’s an explosive playmaker with the ball in his hands and the Texans understand that and are designing ways to get him the ball. That shouldn’t change moving forward.
This week he has a nice matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers are known as a run-stuffing pass funnel, albeit not to the extent of the past couple of years. Even still, that should bode well for Dell and the Texans’ passing game. This game is also being played in a dome, which is a nice boost as well. Ultimately, this is probably the last time Dell will be eligible for this article making him one of the best Week 9 streamers at wide receiver who should also be held onto for the rest of the season.
Honorable Mentions – Demario Douglas (NE – 3%) v WAS, Rashid Shaheed (NO – 36%) v CHI
Tight End – Trey McBride (ARI – 20%) @ CLE
Trey McBride had been someone fantasy managers had been waiting on for a while now and it looks like it’s finally happening. He was a fairly popular sleeper and waiver add last week after seeing his utilization increase for two straight weeks combined with Zach Ertz landing on the IR. McBride delivered in a big way with a monster game. He caught 10 of his 14 targets for 95 yards and a touchdown to lead the Arizona Cardinals in all receiving categories. All of those were also career highs for McBride across the board. The underlying metrics all back it up as well and he’s seeing a bigger role than he ever has.
This week’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns is a tough one but then again so was this past week’s matchup and McBride still delivered. The tight end position is always tough to find any upside in so when fantasy managers see a monster game like this that’s backed up by elite usage from a young, promising prospect, you have to pounce and take the chance. McBride is certainly one of the best Week 9 streamers at tight end and a great player to hold on to further than just this week. He has a real chance at being a top-ten tight end the rest of the way. This is your last call on McBride.
Targets per route run for tight ends with 100+ routes in 2023:

23% Sam LaPorta
23% Zach ErtzMcBride: Arizona’s 2022 Round 2 pick & was excellent in his senior year at Colorado State.
