The Sun Devils will tilt off with a future in-conference rival
The Arizona State Sun Devils (2-1) will host its first midweek tilt of the season in a Big 12 conference preview against the No. 24 Kansas State Wildcats (2-1). Arizona State is coming off a series win while K-State is coming off back-to-back wins.
ASU took the first two games against Santa Clara, and despite scoring the most runs in a season-opening series (38) since 2019, substandard pitching and defense prevented the sweep. The Sun Devils hot bats brought in runs of 11, 14 and 13 and the program is now tied for third nationally with 10 home runs through three games.
Kansas State fell in the season opener to California, before earning back-to-back wins over Boston College and Georgetown.
Arizona State holds a 4-2 record all time over Kansas State. The last meeting between the two programs came in 2009 when Sun Devils walked away with 12-1 victory. K-State is 0-2 versus ASU on the road and the hot bats of the Sun Devils could work to improve that record.
The Wildcats are 55-95 against members of the Pac-12.
ASU coach Willie Bloomquist said Adam Behrens will likely get the ball against Kansas State. He gave up a run and two hits in 1.1 innings and was one of five freshman to see the mound against Santa Clara.
First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
