Arizona State travels to Arlington, Texas to play in the Globe Life Series against Texas A&M and TCU
Arizona State (5-3), coming off an eight-game home stand against three opponents to open the season the season, will travel for an important three-game stretch played in Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. The Sun Devils are set to face stiff competition in the 2024 Kubota College Baseball Series.
ASU will tilt off against No. 7 Texas A&M (8-0) twice and No. 5 TCU (9-0) in three game against top-ten ranked opponents, a mighty test for Bloomquist’s squad. Texas A&M and TCU remains the country’s only top-10 programs without a loss.
“It will be a good measuring stick for us to find out where we’re at and where we’ve got to improve and if we can compete with those top-ten teams,” Bloomquist said.
Arizona State will play No. 7 Texas A&M at 5 p.m. MST on Friday, March 1 and again at 10 a.m. MST on Sunday, March 3.
No. 7 Texas A&M went 38-27 overall with a 14-16 conference record in the SEC before after being eliminated in the Stanford Regional of the 2023 Division I NCAA Baseball Men’s College World Series.
So far this season, the Aggies have averaged 11.6 runs per game and have played against McNeese, University of Incarnate Word, Wagner and Lamar. With multiple players inside the 2024 Top 100 College Draft Prospects according to D1Baseball.com, talent is not hard to attract in College Station, Texas.
“You’re going to run into teams that are going to have better players, and that’s just the facts of life,” said Bloomquist. “But you can’t cash your chip in, you’ve got to go punch them right in the mouth and take them head on and that’s where the mindset comes in, the mentality comes in, that we’re not going to back down. We’re going to keep coming after you.”
Arizona State will play No. 5 TCU at 5 p.m. MST on Saturday, March 2.
For No. 5 TCU, the Horned Frogs come off a season that featured quite the run, going 44-22 overall with an 13-11 conference record in the Big 12. As Big 12 tournament champions last season, No. 5 TCU rolled through the Fayetteville Regional to go on to host the Fort Worth Super Regional. A 2-0 sweep brought them to Omaha, Nebraska where the Horned Frogs went 2-2 in the NCAA Division I Men’s College World Series.
This season, No. 5 TCU is 5-0 against Pac-12 opponents after sweeping No. 20 UCLA in a three-game set, defeating Washington State in a mid-week game and beating Arizona the following day. The Horned Frogs pitching staff has limited opponents to under five runs in five of their nine games this season.
“We’re increasing our level of competition this weekend with the teams we’re playing,” Bloomquist said. “We’re going to figure out how to beat good teams on the road if we’re going to get to where we want to get to.”
