Center of attention
Dohnovan West, the anchor of what should be one of the Pac-12 Conference’s best offensive line units, has been named to the 2021 Rimington Trophy Watch List.
The distinction is given annually to the nation’s best center. He’s one of 40 men to be listed this season.
New offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh will have a bevy of talent to work wih in his first yea at the helm.
Last year, playing at guard, West was the seventh highest ranked at his position in the Power Five, and the best in the Pac-12. He allowed just two quarterback pressures in the Sun Devils’ four games, and led an offensive line that paved the way for an often dominant run game. ASU gained 1152 yards on the ground, averaging 6.4 yards per carry.
West and the rest of the offensive line opened holes that consistently allowed Sun Devil running backs to reach the second level of the defense unimpeded, while protecting quarterback Jayden Daniels at a high level as well.
