Leavitt, a four-star prospect out of West Linn, Or., and a three-star transfer from the Trojans, where he played one season before hitting the portal. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback was the No. 1 overall prospect in Oregon for the class of 2023, but saw limited action at Michigan State, only playing in four games.
He was 15-of-23 for 139 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions through the air while rushing for 67 yards on 13 carries in his redshirt freshman year.
His decision to transfer likely came from the murky coaching staff situation in East Lansing, with former coach Mel Tucker was suspended in September before subsequently being let go. Former Oregon State Jonathan Smith was then asked to take over the crumbling program. Smith never offered Leavitt while at Oregon State, drawing frustration when he took over and prompting Leavitt to hit the portal.
Now joining second-year coach Kenny Dillingham in Tempe, Leavitt will compete with returning sophomore Jaden Rashada and veteran senior Trenton Bourguet for the starting role.
