Arizona State linebacker did not play in 2023 and will have to years of eligibility left
Junior linebacker Will Shaffer entered his name into the transfer portal after he walked away from the team in September, and utilized his redshirt year. He will continue to play football at Utah State, he announced via social media in December.

Shaffer played his first three seasons at Arizona State primarily on special teams. He appeared in four games in 2020 and all 12 games in the 2021 and 2022 season as a reserve linebacker, kick returner on punts and on kickoffs. In the 2022 season Shaffer had nine total tackles, seven of them solo tackles.
In September of 2023, Shaffer announced via social media his intentions to redshirt for his junior year and enter the transfer portal. He graduated from Arizona State in December of 2023 with his degree and intends to enroll in graduate school in Logan, Utah.
