Arizona State will keep critical recruiters for the 2024 season
Arizona State football extended the contracts of both assistant coaches Bryan Carrington and Ra’Shaad Samples, first reported by Chris Karpman of SunDevilSource.com on Dec. 6. Carrington specializes in the Sun Devils’ secondary as the cornerbacks coach and Samples is the wide receiver and passing game coordinator. Both will see another year in Tempe after signing one-year deals for the 2024 season.

As ASU shifts into a new era in the Big 12, so too will the recruiting landscape. For head coach Kenny Dillingham, recruiting will be a major focus for a program trying to compete with new opponents not only on the field. Both Carrington and Samples sit inside the 2024 Big-12 Football Recruiting Rankings, according to 247Sports. Carrington is the No. 3 recruiter and Samples No. 8.
Both coaches have strong ties in Big 12 territory with six of 17 commits in the 2024 class coming from the state of Texas. Carrington and Sample were able to land three-star cornerback recruits Tony-Louis Nkuba and Chris Johnson Jr. as well as three-star edge Ashley Williams, all from Texas.
They have generated the movement, “#Texas2Tempe” and have been recruiting hard, creating a pipeline of talent for the Sun Devils.

Before coming to Arizona State last season, Carrington spent time with TCU as an offensive analyst and recruiting coordinator and helped bring the Horned Frogs into a national conversation on the football field. His experience also includes time with USC, Texas and Houston. In Carrington’s career, he has been tied to 11 five-star recruits including Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson (Texas).
Samples had experience as an assistant head coach with SMU from 2019 to 2021. In 2022, Samples became the NFL’s youngest position coach when he became the Los Angeles Rams running backs coach at 27 years old.
Dillingham and his staff must equip themselves with the industry’s best recruiters to catch up to the growing Big 12 conference, and by locking down Carrington and Samples for another year, the Sun Devils have made moves in the right direction on the recruiting trail.
