On Tuesday morning, Tom Brady and the reigning Super Bowl champs joined President Joe Biden at the White House.
While this event was once a time-honored tradition for Super Bowl champions, it’s certainly become less than that in recent years. Just like each of the other Super Bowl-winning teams during his term as president, Brady and his title-winning Patriots team rejected Donald Trump’s invitation back in 2019.
This time though, Brady would not refuse.
The 2020-21 Tampa Bay squad marks the first team to accept the president’s invitation since 2017.
With the Buccaneers’ attendance earlier today, the honor of visiting the White House after a major title win seems to have been restored.
President Biden thanked the Bucs for accepting his invitation.
“Thanks @Buccaneers for stopping by the White House today,” he wrote on Twitter. “Your team is the embodiment of a quintessential lesson about sports and about America itself. That no matter how much we get knocked down – we get up.”
The Bucs responded with gratitude of their own — hinting at a potential return in the near future.
“Thanks for having us, @POTUS. Let’s do it again soon,” the team wrote.

In addition to this clear mutual respect, the Bucs and the president shared some laughs today as well. During his time on the mic, Brady cracked a few jokes about election results and age.
“Not a lot of people think that we could have won, and in fact I think about 40% of the people still don’t think we won,” Brady joked. “We had a game in Chicago where I forgot what down it was. I lost track of one down in 21 years of playing, and they started calling me ‘Sleepy Tom.’ Why they do that to me?”
As they enter their 46th season as a franchise, the Buccaneers gifted the 46th president the traditional No. 46 Tampa Bay jersey.
With a fully reloaded roster, including a 43-year-old Brady still at the helm, the Bucs will look to make another trip to the White House in 2022.
