Clemson football made a noteworthy addition to its coaching staff today, bringing former star quarterback Tajh Boyd back into the fold.
Boyd played for the Tigers from 2010-13 and was a starter in his final three seasons. He finished his career with 11,904 passing yards, 107 touchdowns and only 39 interceptions before being drafted in the sixth round by the New York Jets in 2014.
Boyd’s position at his alma mater “will be somewhere between (an) analyst (and a) player development role,” he told Mike Uva of WACH FOX. He had been away from football for a few years after his playing career ended in 2016.
“I’m just gonna relearn the game,” Boyd said. “Maybe I’ll start in the (offensive) line room and relearn protections and then I’ll jump in with the receivers and tight ends and try to get a holistic version of what it looks like to coach on the other side of it, which means preparation and long hours but I’m excited about it.”
Overall, the move has seemingly been met with a lot of enthusiasm by Clemson fans and those around the program.
The proof-of-concept that prompted Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, DJ Uiagalelei and the rest to become Tigers, Tajh Boyd is joining the Clemson coaching staff.https://t.co/IxNpeLDYnd

Just here to remind y’all that @TajhB10 took @ClemsonFB from “Lil ole’ Clemson” to a national powerhouse. He bridged the gap! No disrespect to Watson or Lawrence, but Tajh Boyd walked so they could run 🐾

It will be interesting to see if Boyd ultimately makes a career out of coaching, or if he dabbles in it for a couple of years before turning elsewhere.
Whatever happens, he’s getting started at a place he knows well, which will undoubtedly help him make the transition.
