Incoming rookie for the New York Giants Kadarius Toney has been placed on the COVID-19 reserve list, the team announced on Thursday.
The young wide receiver showed up to the Giants’ first day of training camp yesterday and underwent testing for the virus along with the rest of his teammates. According to a statement released by the team, Toney is now following the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols by “isolating and participating in meetings remotely.”

This isn’t the first time Toney has been held away from the practice field this offseason. Earlier in the year during voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp, the first-round WR missed time with a couple minor injuries, a family emergency and a rookie contract holdout.
Toney was selected by the Giants with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 draft. New York fell back in the order after striking a deal with the Chicago Bears using their original No. 11 overall pick.
Through four collegiate seasons with the Florida Gators, the 22-year-old wideout logged 120 receptions, 1,590 yards and 12 touchdowns (10 in his senior season).
This news comes on the same afternoon that a couple NFL stars spoke out against the push to get players vaccinated before the start of the 2021 season.
Toney’s vaccination status is unknown.
