Along with fellow Big 12 powerhouse Texas, Oklahoma is reportedly set to leave the conference and join the SEC.
This potential move has elicited a variety of reactions from the football world. Some are excited about the expansion of the SEC into a mega-conference, while others worry about it’s effect on the current college football landscape.
Former Sooners standout CeeDee Lamb is a “big fan” of the decision.
Joining 105.3 The Fan on Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver gave his thoughts on this groundbreaking move.
“I mean, yeah,” Lamb said when asked if he liked the change. “Just because they miss — I mean, I guess the Big 12 isn’t — I don’t know, they don’t get enough love. That’s tough, though, I like it. I’m a big fan of it. I can’t wait to see how them guys perform.”
Through three seasons in Norman, Lamb logged 173 receptions, 3,292 yards and 32 touchdowns. With the help of his stellar play, Oklahoma notched three of its 14 total Big 12 titles. Dating back to 2015, the Sooners have claimed six straight conference championships.
Lamb was asked about his former team leaving the conference it dominated for so many years to enter a more competitive SEC group.
“I think you kind of answered the question yourself,” Lamb said. “If you’re the best in the room, then you obviously have to go to a new room and I feel like OU definitely has to make the change. Like I said, in order to be the best, you have to go against the best, so I’m excited for it.”
The SEC will reportedly vote to add Oklahoma and Texas to the conference during a meeting sometime next week.
