As he continues to recover from the ACL injury that ended his 2020 season prematurely, Saquon Barkley is remaining coy about his status for Week 1.
Barkley is holding his annual football camp in New Jersey this week, allowing New York Giants beat writers the opportunity to speak with him in person. Naturally, the topic about his rehab and whether he’ll be a full-go at training camp and for the season opener came up.
Barkley didn’t say too much though, telling reporters “we’ll see” about his status for training camp and repeating the words when pressed about Week 1.
“I don’t know. We’ll see,” he said, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “Taking it day by day. Just listening to my body. Whenever I’m able to get out there, just make sure I’m 110 percent. Not just for … my well-being, but just so I go out there and compete at a high level and show the world who Saquon is.”

Barkley, who is entering his fourth season with the Giants, tore his ACL in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears last fall. By all accounts, his recovery has been going well, but Barkley has not committed to a timetable for his return.
This is probably a good move on his part, and there’s likely a bit of gamesmanship involved. The Giants probably don’t want to make any definitive statements about Barkley’s health right now.
Our educated guess? Barkley’s workload will be managed throughout training camp and the preseason, but barring any setbacks, he’ll be ready to play Week 1.
However, how many snaps he’ll see against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 12 is anyone’s guess. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him be eased into a full complement of touches.
