The last few years have featured historically good quarterback play from some of the SEC’s most prominent programs. But there will be a bunch of new signal-callers this coming season, and one SEC analyst is ready to rank the top ones.
On Friday, ESPN and SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic released his “Top 5 SEC QB Rankings”. Perhaps unsurprisingly, four of those quarterbacks come from the four schools that have reached the SEC Championship Game in the last two years: Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU.
Taking the top spot was Georgia quarterback JT Daniels. The former USC transfer played great in four games for the Bulldogs, and looks to build on that success this year.
Coming in second is Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral. The Rebels senior quarterback enjoyed a breakout season under Lane Kiffin last year, and could take another leap in 2021.
Rounding out the top five are LSU’s Max Johnson (3), Florida’s Emory Jones (4) and Alabama’s Bryce Young (5). All three of them have limited experience but tons of upside in offensive powerhouses.

For a generation the SEC has maintained a reputation as a defensive powerhouse. And while that remains the case, the SEC offenses have gotten a lot better with countless records broken thanks in no small part to stellar quarterback play.
There are a handful of SEC teams that can win the national championship in 2021. But it’s a lot harder to win one without an elite quarterback now than it was just a few years ago.
Which of these SEC quarterbacks do you see having the best season this year?
