We haven’t seen much of Klay Thompson on a basketball court since his season-ending Achilles tear last year. But Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has an update that should have fans giddy.
In an interview with Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Kerr revealed that Thompson has taken a major step in his Achilles recovery. He said that Thompson is running again, and is going to get a “huge psychological boost” from it.
“There’s a big step with the Achilles when you can actually start running again,” Kerr said. “It’s a huge psychological boost… He’s at that point.”
Thompson has not played a game since suffering a torn ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. He missed the entirety of the 2018-19 NBA season with that injury, and then tore his Achilles this past November – just weeks before the 2020-21 season.
Steve Kerr gives a promising update on Klay Thompson’s rehab:

Prior to his injuries, Klay Thompson was entrenched as the top shooting guard in the NBA. He made five straight All-Star appearances while averaging 21.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
The Warriors made the NBA Finals in each of those five seasons, winning three titles.
But two years out of the game is an extremely long time to get back into form. There’s no guarantee that Thompson will be the same dominant force he was before he was injured.
But if he can return to even 80-percent of what he was at in 2018, it will cap off one of the NBA’s all-time comebacks.
