LOS ANGELES (AP) — Holland Woods had 24 points as Grand Canyon defeated Loyola Marymount 78-72 on Monday night. Jovan Blacksher Jr. added 20 points for the Antelopes.
Woods went 7-of-13 from the floor, hitting four threes while also scoring six at the free-throw line.
Taeshon Cherry, who like Woods transferred to GCU from nearby Arizona State, came off the bench to score 12 points and add six steals for Grand Canyon. Sean Miller-Moore added 10 points and eight rebounds.
GCU allowed LMU to hit 54% from the field and 43% from three-point range, but the Antelopes made up for it on the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards and getting 10 more field goal attempts than their opponents.
Grand Canyon fell behind 33-28 at halftime but outscored Loyola Marymount 50-39 in the second half to pull out the win, moving GCU to a 6-1 record on the season.
Eli Scott had 25 points for the Lions (4-3). Teammate Dameane Douglas added 12 points, and Keli Leaupepe had 10 points.
