Antonio Pierce’s time as Las Vegas Raiders head coach was short-lived.
The former Arizona Wildcats player was dismissed by the team Tuesday after coaching the Raiders to a 4-13 record in his first full season. Pierce was promoted to head coach last offseason after serving as interim head coach midway through the 2023 season.
Pierce leaves the Raiders with a 9-17 career record.
Pierce began his coaching career at Long Beach Poly High School. He then joined Herm Edwards’ ASU staff, where he was promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.
As overseer of ASU’s recruiting under Edwards, Pierce committed several NCAA violations for which he received an eight-year show-cause from coaching college football.
So don’t expect to see him back on a college sideline anytime soon.
Pierce, who played linebacker at Arizona from 1999-2000, could land a job in the NFL as a defensive assistant. It’s unlikely another team will take a chance on him as their head coach after how the stint in Las Vegas went.
