It might make more sense to note the Arizona players who have not decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal, because at this point it’s looking like that will be the smaller number.
The latest Wildcats starter to enter the portal is cornerback Treydan Stukes, meaning all three defensive captains from the 2024 team are looking to transfer.
The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Stukes had been at Arizona since 2020, beginning as a walk-on during the final year of the Kevin Sumlin era and later getting put on scholarship by Jedd Fisch. In his five seasons he’s started 28 times including 15 in a row, a streak that ended this season after he suffered a knee injury in the Big 12 opener at Utah.
This season Stukes had 18 tackles, 2.5 for loss, with an interception. In his career the Phoenix-area native had 154 tackles and three picks.
Stukes and fellow captains Jacob Manu and Gunner Maldonado are all in the portal while still recovering from their recent knee surgeries, putting their availability for spring practice in question. They are three of the seven defensive starters who have entered the portal since it opened Monday.
Overall, 28 members of Arizona’s 2024 roster have entered the portal. Add in players who have run out of eligibility, declared for the NFL Draft or medically retired and the number is 45.
