Is the third time the charm?
When Jorynn Ross transferred to Arizona from Pepperdine last year, she said that she was looking for development. Head coach Adia Barnes agreed that Ross was joining the Wildcats to be developed for the future. Ross is now on to her third school in three years to find that development.
“I was looking for development,” Ross said last June. “All through my recruiting process, I told every coach I want to be developed. Because I had a long season at Pepperdine. It was like a lot going on. So I just wanted a stable place to restart and finish up my last three years.”
She added that she “could have just quit” while at Pepperdine, but decided to push through.
It doesn’t come as a huge surprise to see Ross taking this route. She appeared in 27 games with 12 starts for the Waves as a freshman, making the WCC All-Freshman team. After averaging 6.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks in 20.7 minutes per game at Pepperdine, she played very little at Arizona. She averaged 6.2 minutes per game, contributing 1.1 points on 41.7 percent shooting. She had a total of one assist and 11 turnovers in 18 games.
On a per 40-minute basis, Ross was good for 6.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 4.0 turnovers, 0.7 steals, 0.4 blocks, and 5.1 personal fouls as a sophomore.
Along with Jada Williams, Ross did not play in the Wildcats’ WBIT loss to NAU.
