He was at San Jose State in 2023
The San Jose to Tucson pipeline has produced another bounty, albeit this one by way of Austin.
Arizona has landed a commitment from cornerback Jay’Vion Cole, who played for Brent Brennan at San Jose State in 2023 before spending this past season at Texas.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Cole appeared in four games for the Longhorns this fall, logging limited snaps on defense and special teams and intercepting a pass against Louisiana-Monroe. The year before, though, Cole was an honorable mention All-Mountain West selection after starting all 13 games for the Spartans and registering 38 tackles (three for loss) with a sack and three INT.
A native of Oakland, Cole began his career at FCS Cal Poly where he had a team-high four interceptions.
Arizona’s secondary has gone through major turnover since the season ended. Of the 66 games started by UA defensive backs in 2024, 54 of them have either graduated or entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Cole is the second corner Arizona has gotten from the portal, joining fellow ex-San Jose State teammate Michael Dansby. The Wildcats have four portal pickups so far but will need many more, as 30 players from the 2024 team are in the portal and only 40 scholarship players remain on the roster.
