Arizona guard Lauryn Swann “bet on herself” when she waited to commit to a college her senior year in high school according to head coach Adia Barnes. That bet is already paying off for both sides, netting Swann the Big 12 Freshman of the Week award.

Over two games last week, Swann averaged 15.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 19.5 minutes per game. She shot 64.7 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc. She also hit 5 of 6 free throws.
Swann came off the bench to score 19 points in just under 19 minutes against UNLV last Tuesday. She hit her first six shots before finally missing and ended the game 8 for 9 from the floor. That included hitting both of her 3-point shots. She also had one assist. Her play was critical to the Wildcats’ 75-66 win.
The guard followed that up with 12 points in an 84-48 victory over Chicago State on Saturday. She added five rebounds and one assist.
The Queens, NY native is second on the team with 10.2 points in 18 minutes per game this season. Her 58.6 percent field goal percentage is first on the team among players who don’t play the post and third overall. She is also shooting 73.3 percent from the free throw line, helping the team to a 78.8 percent free-throw shooting percentage.
Swann’s award is Arizona’s first women’s basketball weekly honor since joining the Big 12.
