Arizona men’s basketball coach Tommy Lloyd has a tall order replacing Caleb Love’s productivity. Landing a 5-star combo guard is a good way to kick off the process.
Arizona received a commitment Wednesday from Brayden Burries, making him the third 5-star prospect to commit to the Wildcats in the 2025 class.

Burries is the second McDonald’s All-American to commit to Arizona in the last few weeks, joining forward Koa Peat. Burries and Peat give Arizona multiple McDonald’s All-Americans for the fourth time in school history and the first since Josh Green and Nico Mannion in 2019.
Together with 5-star wing Dwayne Aristode and 3-star shooting guard Bryce James, the son of NBA star LeBron James, they form a recruiting class ranked 4th nationally by 247Sports.
Burries is a 6-foot-5 guard from Riverside, Calif. who plays for Eleanor Roosevelt High School. He chose Arizona over Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee and USC.

Burries is ranked the No. 11 prospect in the 2025 class, per 247Sports, including the No. 2 combo guard and No. 3 player out of California. He is older than most incoming freshmen, as he’ll turn 20 in September.
Burries is a “strong and physical scoring guard, who can get his buckets in a variety of ways,” 247Sports’ Adam Finklestein wrote in his player evaluation.
I’d expect Brayden Burries to be one of the best freshmen next year, in part because he’ll be 20 years old in Sept. Good frame for a combo guard, competes defensively, and should shoot it well. Still uncommitted. pic.twitter.com/HUeXRa8mNa

Burries’ commitment comes in the wake of several transfer portal departures, most notably guard guard KJ Lewis and center Henri Veesaar. The Arizona coaching staff will be able to more assertive, if not selective, in the transfer portal now knowing they have a highly skilled combo guard coming in.
