Caleb Love missed 13 shots in Arizona’s Sweet 16 loss to Clemson Thursday night, but one in particular stood out.
Early in the first half, Love airballed a running one-legged three-pointer from the left wing, which he attempted with around five seconds still remaining on the shot clock.
It’s possible Love didn’t realize he had a couple more ticks left. Regardless, it was a mind-blowing attempt.
“Arizona is playing some of the absolute worst basketball I’ve ever seen. Nice shot Caleb Love,” said one commenter on X/Twitter who shared video of the play.
Maybe the worst legitimate shot attempt I’ve ever seen in D1 basketball. Not even joking. Still had plenty of time on the shot clock. pic.twitter.com/Sw1E9sNevO

Love has always been a talented but streaky player. Two years ago when he was at UNC, he carried the Tar Heels to a win over UCLA in the Sweet 16 and a victory over Duke in the Final Four only to shoot 5-for-24 in the team’s national title game loss to Kansas.
Tonight, Love was only 5-for-18 from the field, but missed all nine of this three-point attempts. Overall, Arizona shot just 37.3% from the field and 17.9% from three-point range.
Love still has one more year of college eligibility remaining, should he choose to use it. We’ll see if he returns to school next season for a chance to end his career on a higher note.
