He’s got history with Duane Akina
Ten of the 18 players who started on defense for Arizona in 2024 have either graduated or are in the NCAA transfer portal, leaving a lot of holes to fill. This is particularly evident in the secondary, where only two players who started this past season are set to return.
It’s early, but the UA appears pretty determined to rebuild the back line of its defense through the portal. Of the five transfers it has gotten commitments from so far three are defensive backs, including the latest, ex-Stanford safety Jshawn Frausto-Ramos.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Ramos appeared in 22 games the previous two seasons at Stanford, starting five including one in 2024. This past fall he had 22 tackles with two sacks and a forced fumble.
A 4-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class from Bellflower, Calif., Frausto-Ramos was offered a scholarship by Arizona in 2021 before ultimately choosing the Cardinal. When he committed he cited then-Stanford defensive backs coach Duane Akina as one of his reasons for picking the Cardinal.
He joins cornerbacks Jay’Vion Cole and Michael Dansby are transfer pickups for the secondary.
